Trotec T510K Timber Framing Moisture Meter

The Trotec T510K is a professional pin-type tradesperson's moisture meter kit designed especially for measuring the moisture in timber framing.

This type of moisture meter system is what the councils, local bodies and building inspectors use in New Zealand for pre-lining checks of the construction of new buildings.

The sliding hammer electrode that comes as part of the standard kit features 45mm long hardened steel probes with insulated shafts. The pins are driven into the timber frame or through the gib lining by the hammer action, typically going into the timber at a depth of 20-30mm deep.
The 60mm teflon insulated pins on the hammer electrode, help reduce the effect that timber treatments have on moisture meter readings (i.e. H1.2 Boron).

If you use just the moisture meter by itself (with 8-10mm pin length) without the hammer electrode, you will only measure the surface and this often always results in an incorrect result or answer.
Sometimes it will be higher, other times lower than the deeper measurement of the hammer electrode.

The T510K allows the user to input the type of timber you are testing plus the temperature of the timber to a get a correct answer for that species. Because different species of timber give different moisture content readings, the T510K has a built-in wood menu to help overcome this.

Accurate Instruments sets the wood type of the new T510K moisture meters to Radiata pine, the main type of wood employed in NZ for timber framing.
If you are testing other timbers such as douglas fir, simply change the wood type.
The T510K therefore requires no correction tables to be looked up once a reading has been taken.

A hold mode allows individual measurements to be locked on the screen.

An optional calibration check block is available for user calibration checks.

All the components of the T510K package are housed inside hard foam lined case which has room for all the components (see image left).

Trotec T3000K Timber Framing Moisture Meter

The Trotec T3000K is a high accuracy industry professional pin-type moisture meter kit designed especially for measuring the moisture in timber framing.

The sliding hammer electrode that comes as part of the standard kit features 60mm long hardened steel probes with insulated shafts. The pins are driven into the timber frame or through the gib lining by the hammer action, typically going into the timber at a depth of 20-30mm deep.
The 45mm teflon insulated pins on the hammer electrode, help reduce the effect that timber treatments have on moisture meter readings (i.e. H1.2 Boron).

Unlike the T510K model above, the T3000K features data logging which enables to the user to store measured values and download the readings to a Windows compatible computer.
The entire data record can then be downloaded from the T3000 using the Multi Measure Studio software.

It also features an integrated graphic grid measurement function that displays the measurement, visualisation and assessment of moisture content in the timber frame.

As it is with the T510K, the T3000K allows the user to input the type of timber you are testing plus the temperature of the timber to a get a correct answer for that species. Trotec T510 Wood Moisture Meter

The Trotec T510 is a professional trade timber pin moisture meter.

It is designed to be used by timber/wood manufacturers, builders and constructors to determine the estimated % of moisture in the wood material.

Unlike many other models in it's price range, the T510 features a built-in wood species menu. Simply choose the type of species being measured from the Trotec Wood Species Guide, select the correct code from the in-built menu of the meter, and the T510 will automatically correct the reading.
In some cases, different species of wood can vary the readings up to 3%!

The T510 will also automatically correct for temperature compensation if the correct temperature of the wood is known. The operator simply enters the correct reading into the T510 and the meter automatically corrects the moisture reading.

The new T510 features a scratch-resistant 2.7 inch colour TFT touchscreen, with high contrast colour graphics that can be viewed even in direct sunlight.

The T510 features a user settable alarm which will alert the user to high readings. An optional software package is available for real-time USB moisture distribution graphing.

Protimeter Surveymaster Combo Moisture Meter

The new BLD5365 Protimeter Surveymaster from GE Sensing, is an upgraded replacement for the existing popular BLD5360 unit.

It is a dual function non invasive PLUS probe moisture meter.
It features the same non invasive functions as the Aquant (see above) with the addition of a probe mode for measuring the % of moisture.

Simply hold the Surveymaster against the wall and the unit will scan (using the capacitance method), typically up to 19mm from the surface. (Note: Metal also increases the readings of capacitance meters).
The latest model now features a unique "reference mode" for non invasive measuring.
The meter can be benchmarked to a known point on a wall, and any changes in measurement will appear as higher or lower in digits compared to this area.

Once an area has been determined as being possibly wet becuase of high readings, switch the mode on the Surveymaster to the pin/probe mode (WME), and measure the % of moisture.

For deeper readings, the Survemaster comes standard with a pair of deep wall probes, which can be plugged into the side of the unit.

An optional standard or heavy duty sliding hammer electrode can be purchased to use with the Protimeter Surveymaster.
For pre-lining checks on new buildings, it is recommended to use a hammer electrode with insulated pins to ensure the moisture readings are correct.

Protimeter Digital Mini Wood Moisture Meter

The Protimeter Digital Mini from GE Sensing is an easy to use timber pin moisture meter.

New for 2015, the Digital Mini replaces the Mini-BLD2000 model.

It is designed to be used by timber/wood manufacturers, builders and constructors to determine the estimated % of moisture in the wood material.

It features an LED colour coded scale for displaying the % of moisture.

For best results, the Mini should be used with the optional Protimeter Std or H/duty sliding hammer electrodes.
The 60mm teflon insulated pins on the hammer electrodes, help reduce the effect that treated timbers have on moisture meter readings (i.e. H1.2 Boron).
For pre-lining checks on new buildings, this is the recommended method to ensure the moisture readings are correct.

The Mini is pre-calibrated and supplied with a wood calibration chart. This chart will allow the user to correct the timber reading for the right type of wood being measured (i.e. Radiata pine).

A simple cal-check is supplied for user calibration checks.

Carrel & Carrel C901 Wood Moisture Meter

The Carrel & Carrel C901 is a basic analogue timber pin moisture meter.

It is designed to be used by timber/wood manufacturers, builders and constructors to determine the estimated % of moisture in the wood material.

As this model features short pins, it is best utilised with the optional CSH102 sliding hammer electrode, which features 45mm teflon insulated pins.
The 45mm teflon insulated pins on the CSH102 help reduce the effect that timber treatments have on moisture meter readings (i.e. H1.2 Boron).
For pre-lining checks on new buildings, this is the recommended method to ensure the moisture readings are correct.

The C901 is pre-calibrated for Douglas Fir. An optional test card is available for user calibration checks.

The C901 comes with a temperature and wood correction book for common species of timber.
